Ronnie Fieg X ASICS GEL LYTE III | Salmon Toe

Sneaker connoisseur Ronnie Fieg is likely best known for his sneaker design and partnerships for David Z. Ronnie has put together over 50 footwear collaborations for footwear store including collabs with Adidas, Sebago, Red Wings, Clarks, Saucony, New Balance and Asics.

Ronnie is giving away another sample pair of Asics Gel Lyte III's that never made it into production. These one off Salmon Toes Asics are comprised of a navy upper with white and salmon accents. It's a shame that these never made it into production but Ronnie is offering these size 9's to one lucky Twitter follower on April 4th.

"Keeping these to myself would be a sin so for my third giveaway one of my lucky Twitter followers will win a pair of “Salmon Toe” Gel lyte iii’s. Once again these are a 1 of 1 sample and are the only pair in existence. This pair is made of high grade nubuck, leather and pig skin and is a sample size 9."

To enter the contest all you gotta do is follow Ronnie Fieg on twitter and tweet the following: “Follow @RonnieFieg to win the RF x Salmon Toe Asics sample, brought to you by RonnieFieg.com”

These are bar none one of the best sneakers we have season this year.

Primitive | Spring 2010 Collection

I must admit that I was surprisingly impressed with Primitive's Spring 2010 collection and no it wasn't because the look book featured Shay Maria.

The Primitive Spring '10 lineup consists of a strong cast ranging from tees, snapbacks, skate decks and crew neck sweaters. The lineup is really a pretty steady blend of design aesthetics relecting classic Coup De Grace, Mishka and Diamond Supply Co aesthetics that are likely to appeal to an array of tastes.

You have your photo tee for the Tits fan (and for the record Tits is whack), you have your biker-esqe patch crew and tee which is actually one of my personal favourites that seems to be popular this spring (Mishka/Rebel8). You'll also find the Red Cup Crew clothing that is likely to appeal to the party goer college kid and aside from having something for everyone the price reflects this mentality with tees starting around $27, crews $44, decks $55 and snapbacks $28.

Eugene Kan caught up with the authority of all things vintage and all things denim, Mr. Kiya Babzani. Kiya has collide with success on more than one occasion laying the ground work for some of the most intriguing business ventures. From a strange obsession for yo-yo's some how evolved Turf, a sneaker spot in San Mateo. All that aside you probably know him best for his high-end Japanese denim empire Self Edge. Aside from a booming online presence, Self Edge boost a growing retail empire which calls San Francisco and more recently New York home. If you have ever wanted to sit down with a true entrepreneur and pick his brain this interview covers just about everything you would want to ask this rockabilly fanatic. Kiya what I do want to know is your thoughts on a world without Internet and what you think you would be doing if the internet didn't exist?

Ellie Goulding x Chiddy Bang | Under The Sheets

The boys of Chiddy Bang teamed up with Ellie Goulding to put a little twist on her popular 'Under The Sheets'. I can't say I am all that familiar with Ms. Ellie Goulding other than her killing it on the Starsmith remix of Passion Pit's "Sleepyhead". The 'Under The Sheets' remix will appear on Chiddy Bang's upcoming Air Swell mixtape - the follow up to the duo's 2009 mixtape Swelly Express. And for those who have been onboard with Chiddy Bang you will be happy to hear that 'Opposite of Adults' is sitting at 16 on the Top 20 UK Singles Chart.

Monday Morning Playlist: Sung Choi

It's no secret that music has the ability to create a unique space and state of mind for an artist or designer. One that can ultimately fuel the creative process. There is no exception when it comes to Clae's creative directer and founder Sung Choi. Whether it is the works of controversial Jazz musician Le Sony'r Ra or Miles Davis' favourite pianist Ahmad Jamal, it is probably safe to say that some of your favorite Clae silhouettes evolved over a cup of tea, sketch pad and some of these tracks humming in the background. Enjoy this weeks collection of Jazz and Reggae that comprise Sung's Monday Morning Playlist.

If you missed out on this past weeks 5 Minute feature we caught up with Sung to chat footwear.

Bugatti | 16C Galibier Edition Concept

Bugatti unveiled the 2010 16C Galibier concept this past week at the Geneva Motor Show. The four-door luxury sedan is really in a class of its own with a top speed of 220 mph and its radiant $1.5 million price tag. Should it makes its way into production the automobile will become the world's fastest and most expensive luxury sedan in the world. Under the hood is Bugatti's 8.0 litre W-16 with a two-stage supercharger.

This car is so next level that it has a removable Swiss-made Parmigiani Fleurier tourbillion clock set into the car's dashboard which can be used as a desk clock or wrist watch.

Lil Wayne feat. Eminem | Drop The World Video

The video for Lil Wayne and Eminem's video for 'Drop The World' was directed by Chris Robinson who is responsible for the videos like Wale and Lady Gaga's "Chilling", Nas' "One Mic" and T.I.'s "Bring Em Out". Unfortunately the video is average at best. Probably just banged this out before Wayne's jail date. Enjoy the weekend.

5 Minutes | Sung Choi

We recently caught up with Clae's Founder and Creative Director - Mr. Sung Choi. Clae Footwear has given a breath of new life into traditional men's footwear, bridging the gap between sneakers and formal footwear. Sung offers a little glimpse into the evolution and growth of the brand while offering up some little unknown facts along the way.

It is my understanding that Clae was your first solo venture that came about as a side project while working as footwear director at Lakai. Can you briefly discuss the evolution of Clae and struggles that you had to overcome?

Clae was originally launched in 2001 to bridge the gap between sneakers and shoes. In exchange for my service as Footwear Director at Lakai, they helped me launch Clae. The synergy wasn’t quite right, so I pulled the plug in 2004 to re-organize. In the Summer of 2007, Clae re-launched independently with new partners who more closely share my vision of Clae as a modern footwear brand. We haven't looked back since.

What, in your eyes, is the most important detail or component you look at when designing a shoe?

I don’t think you can isolate it to one component or detail; really the overall shape, color, material and function have to cohesively come together to bring a singular concept into reality. Easier said than done…

Can you describe your personal design approach?

I have a little sketch pad where random ideas, notes and sketches are jotted down and these little ideas come together over time to make a collection for the season. I enjoy sketching early in the morning with a cup of tea and some classic jazz, which is much different from day to day at the studio with the staff.

With 16 silhouettes it seems Clae offers some of the most versatile footwear on the market right now. Combining a mature aesthetic with a little sneaker flare it seems that each shoe could be a daily driver and also double as semi formal attire. Walk us through which shoe is best suited as your daily driver, work kick, travel choice and your more formal choice?

I do have few favorites, and they work for many different occasions. The Whitman or Ellington works great for formal occasions, but they also look great dressed down with denim or khakis. I also like the McQueen, and dressing it up or down by simply opening up or tightening the eyestay.

This past year really seemed to be the year of the boat shoe. What trends do you think we will see unfold this coming year for footwear?

Work-style Postman boots have been bubbling for few season, and I see the trend continuing to grow.

Is there any one shoe in the collection that best epitomizes the Clae brand?

The Kennedy is very unique in its simplicity; it takes color and material play very well and has a great classic look without feeling stiff or dated.

What catches your eye aesthetically outside of footwear?

Anything with an interesting point of view with a passion for its craft and execution

As the founder and creative director of Clae what has been the most rewarding moment for you?

Seeing men of all ages looking sharp wearing Clae.

5 things people don't likely know about you are...

1. I’m a lefty who can write better with my right, but draw better with the left.
2. I used to make decent money shooting pool back in high school.
3. I got skills with a grill. Don’t test…actually do test!
4. I designed the Union logo back in ’92, which was inspired after seeing Sidney Poitier in a poster for A Raisin in the Sun.
5. Jeff Staple was my intern back at PNB Nation in the mid 90's

5 things you don't leave home without are...

1. Good attitude
2. Keys
3. Wallet
4. Phone
5. Tinted specs

5 favorite spots in Los Angeles are...

1. The boom boom room (my home studio)
2. Rio Cario beach
3. Griffith Park and the observatory
4. LACMA/BCAM/tar pit connect
5. The Getty Center

5 individuals that have inspired you...

1.John Coltrane
2.Bruce Lee
3.Bob Marley
4.Joseph Campbell
5.Bluster, Brue, West, and Zulu (the original PNB Nation)

If you weren't involved in footwear how do you think you would be spending your time?

I'd probably be running a little food clash restaurant or teaching Jazz History at a local community college.

What is the most regrettable shoe purchase that you have allowed to find its way into your closet?

I don’t usually pull bad triggers, but I did buy a pair of all white, leather hi-top Chuck Taylor’s. You would think that they’d work, but I haven’t been able to put them to use. Go figure...

What was the last article of clothing you purchased?

An Army issue Tiger camo combat jacket back in November as a winter/spring layering piece.

What’s in store for the rest of the day?

Getting through the hectic day at the studio.

What can we expect to see this coming year?

A lot of good things are in store for the upcoming season. The spring delivery is hitting stores now; in it we’re introducing three new models: the Bruce, the Ellington, and the Zissou. We’ve also extended our shop-in-shop at the Stussy LA chapter until the end of summer. We just finished up Spring/Summer 2011 designs and are looking forward to working on a video presentation for our Fall/Winter 2010 offerings.

Big thanks to Sung for taking the time to fit us into his hectic schedule. Between tradeshows and shipping Spring 2010 we imagine that there isn't much free time in his schedule. Stay tuned for Sung's Monday Morning Playlist.

Tuesday's Chill Track | "Alligator" - Tegan and Sara

For those who tuned into the Closing Ceremonies on Sunday night, I apologies. I will go out on a limb and say that Avril Lavigne, K-OS, Simple Plan, Hedley, Nickelback and Alanis Morissette are not glowing examples of the musical talents of Canada.

If I was able to have put together the closing concert the line up would have looked something like this: Wintersleep, City and Colour, Tegan and Sara, Attack in Black, Chromeo, The Midway State, The Weakerthans maybe some Matthew Good and Tragically Hip for the throwback and for our francophone community Coeur De Pirate . To the World I apologize for our musical selections that closed out the games.

Canadian Hero | Sidney Crosby

In the 68th minute of last nights much anticipated gold medal game between Canada and the USA, Sidney Crosby secured his name among the roster of Canadian greats. No longer just the pride of Cole Harbour, N.S. but forever immortalized as the pride of Canada.

The goal was lack luster but when it hit the back of the net you could hear every Canadian exhale in unison before breaking into simultaneous roar. But you really can't hand Sid the Kid all the credit. Without the handy work of Canadians Jonathan Toews and Cory Perry and American's Ryan Kesler and Zach Parise and the mastery of goaltenders Roberto Luongo and Ryan Miller this opportunity would have never arose.

I don't know what it is about the Olympics this year but I don't think I have ever been so caught up. Every-time a Canadian was in contention for a medal the pit of my stomach was in a wrenched ball. I can't imagine the pressure each athlete faces during the two week event. Congrats to all the participants, volunteers and organizers on a very enjoyable Olympics.

And for the record when Toews scored I knew it was over. You're welcome for that little prediction. Now back to the CSI re-runs.

Ransom Holding Co. | By Adidas Valley Lo

Rooted in the great North American wilderness with a heritage for wooded wanderlust, RANSOM’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection continues to urge its wearers to venture outsider and explore. Aside from the lumberjack-chic Creek with a boat shoe touch, another style to drop from the collection is the Valley Lo. The Valley Lo is more urban in aesthetics with a plimsoll inspired shape, but an slightly roomier volume keeps these brightly colored numbers more masculine than your average sleek, low-tops such as Keds or Chuck Taylors. The outdoor influence comes in a technical package on the Valley Lo with rip-stop nylon upper that keep these kicks durable through treks and hikes. Aside from the classic black, white and navy, the Valley Lo also comes in happier spring shades such as blue, orange and purple. For those seeking a tough pair of low-tops for the summer, these are set to hit stores soon at select RANSOM by adidas Originals retailers.
