Diversitile | Custom "Walking On Water" Nike Blazers

We have spent a good portion of the last 8 months recruiting talent for a custom footwear project we have on the go with Vans that is set to take place this coming year. We were rounding out our roster in November when we caught the glimpse of a "Walking On Water" themed Nike Dunk Low from artist and custom clothing designer Diversitile.

Out of the 30 artists we have managed to bring aboard, the work of Diversitile has really stood out. And when we saw version 2.0 it only confirmed our excitement to see how his work will translate onto a Vans White Canvas Chukka. The "Walking On Water" custom utilizes a blazer base with a semi-clear blue mid sole. The shoe debuted at Clash of the Customizers gallery in Los Angeles this past December. This particular 1 of 1 is a 9.5 and currently available but we would imagine they won't last too long. Check them out here.

Monday Morning Playlist: Jon Contino

This weeks installment of the Monday Morning Playlist features
Jon Contino. A graphic designer at heart, Jon co-founded boutique design studio Onetwentysix with good friend Matt Gorton. The design duo more recently expanded into the world of men's apparel with the launch of CXXVI this past fall. The studio and brand focuses on combining old world aesthetics with the forward thinking of a great metropolis.

Perusing Jon's portfolio one cannot help but be mesmerized by his ability to create stunning custom typography. In this day and age, where many designers focus on the power of technology, it is refreshing to see graphic design transcend the computer. His typography has been sought after by the likes of Franco Shade, Johnny Cupcakes, Casualty Killers and the Brooklyn Circus with Letter Cult recently recognizing Jon's work as one of the Top 10 designs of 2009.

So sharpen that HB, grab a fresh stake of paper and enjoy today's Monday Morning Playlist.

Here's to a happy Monday. Thanks Jon for the time. Download link.

E*TRADE | Super Bowl XLIV Commercials (2010)

It seems every year that the best Super Bowl commercials come courtesy of E*Trade. This year was no exception. The E*Trade baby has become a repeated hit thanks to the creative team over at the Grey New York agency. Basically they filmed the baby sitting in a highchair before a green screen making expressions, mostly in response to his mother. She sat in an adjacent room for filming and was seen by the baby on a monitor. Added later digitally: the mouth movements of the 5-year old actor, the voice of a 30 year old.

The 5 year old has now become an app called "BabyMail". The app can send customized email video messages utilizing one of the E*Trade babies with the option to upload your own babies image into the message. Unfortunately it has the creep computer voice rather than the classic 30-year old human voiceover.

This years 30 second Super Bowl telecast spots came in at $3.01 US million.

Monday Morning Playlist: Our Favorites of 2009

We've been meaning to put together our favorite Monday Morning Playlist tracks into a little compilation for a while now. Though it is already February we thought we would drop the mix of the classic rock, dance and hip-hop that made our Monday's a little more bearable this past year.

We were very fortunate this year to meet and chat with a lot of creative individuals who took them time to give us their two cents on the music that influences their day to day. Thanks to everyone who took the time out of their busy schedules. Monday we will be dropping our first Playlist of 2010.

Check it out.

3sixteen | Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook

The Ace Hotel serves as a visually stunning and innovated way for the folks at 3sixteen to present this years Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Located in the heart of Manhattan the 12 story boutique hotel offers a unique decor that brings to light the New York base brand. Stussy Deluxe x Dr. Martens | The Hambleton

I hate doing these kind of word for word reposts but Hypebeast knows best and it makes no sense for me to regurgitate information that I don't even know. What I do know is I am stoked on these shoes.

"After a very successful partnership with the Chukka boot, Dr Martens and Stussy Deluxe continue their collaborative partnership with a canvas shoe for Spring/Summer 2010, The Hambleton. Both brands have deep roots in street culture and command respect for their independent, grassroots heritage. Embracing the craftsmanship of Dr. Martens and the laid-back aesthetic of Stussy and California, this fusion has produced what is sure to become an iconic canvas shoe.

The Hambleton is inspired by sport shoes that have so long been the uniform for the youth of California and the famous European summer lightweight shoe, the espadrille a two eye moccasin toe footwear style that is sure to be a staple for the Spring. From a styling perspective, the Hambleton has a clean and sleek look with its bound apron and collar. The Hambleton will carry a Stussy Deluxe woven logo on the tongue and the classic SS Stussy logo is embossed on the rear heel counter. Each style will be tastefully finished with the traditional Dr. Martens woven loop in tonal colors to match the use of canvas.

The product has been built upon a new EVA wedge sole and a strip of Stussy’s signature purple runs along the top of the sidewall as a feature to offer a truly refreshing take on this product.

The Dr Martens x Stussy Deluxe Hambleton is available in three color ways – Navy, Black, and Ecru with two options of laces, tonal or white.

The collection will be available at select Dr Martens retailers and Stussy chapter stores worldwide on March 2010."

Supra Footwear | LOST Collaboration

I tried getting into LOST during its initial season with no avail. I gave it a solid 10 minutes and decided the show could beat it. That was until I sat down and watched the first episode in its entirety two years later. That month was then spent playing catch up as I abandon all friends and sat my ass down on the couch. The result, was an addition to LOST and a pale complexion.

For us LOST fans February 2 has been a much anticipated date. The final season kicks off tonight 8/7c on ABC. It seems I am not just the only one stoked on the final season. Late last month Nike debuted their Nike SB Blazer High - Dharma Initiative as well as the Nike SB Dunk High - Oceanic Airlines Edition both part of the LOST Pack. Not to be outdone Supra releases an exclusive "LOST" Vaider. The shoe was produced and given to cast and crew of the show with a small portion, 17 to be exact, set aside to go on sale today at Factory413 and depending on remaining stock going online later today.

The Supra x LOST package comes complete with a pair of “LOST” Vaiders in White & Gold Crackle, an “Expose” crew mug, and a numbered copy of an original LOST script signed by writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.

"The theme around the project was centered on the program “Expose” – a fictional program that appears numerous times throughout the LOST series as a show-wihin-the-show. In true LOST tradition, the shoes are covered in clues and references taken from the episode in which Expose first appears (the 14th episode of the third season – hence the 17 pairs releasing today). From the “Razzle Dazzle” on the heel to the “paralyzing” insole, fans of the series will be sure to understand the meaning of all the subtle hints included in the shoe’s construction."

Cheap Monday | Simon Anorak M-65

Though not your typical M-65, the Simon Anorak Jacket is another glowing example of how Cheap Monday cannot seem to do any wrong. The slimmer fitting symmetrical jacket features zip closure and 4 flap pockets with snap closures. The jacket also features a drawstring hood and bottom. The jacket is 100% cotton with poly lining and will only set you back $115. Cheap Monday was founded in 2000 by Örjan Andersson and Adam Friberg, originally as a second-hand clothing store, in a suburb of Stockholm. Today Cheap Monday spans the globe from Austrailia to North America appearing in just about every store from Barney's to Urban Outfitters.

On a side note when did Cheap Monday drop the controversial inverted crucifix from their logo?

Tuesday's Chill Track | "The Northern" - Alexisonfire

So I might as well stop calling these Tuesday track's chill. Alexisonfire's fourth studio album, Old Crows/Young Cardinals, dropped this past year and among the tracks was this take on a hymn from the 1850s. The story goes that in the 1850s, Reverend Alexander Reid, then superintendent of the Spencer Academy in the old Choctaw Nation, hired some enslaved Africans from the Choctaws for some work around the school. He over heard the two of them, "Uncle Wallace" and "Aunt Minerva" Willis, singing religious songs that they had apparently composed. Among those was Roll Jordan Roll. Reverend Reid furnished them into a gospel-esque group and the rest is history. Though the parallels may not be blatantly clear check it out.

The Northern

He comes, he comes
Judge so severe
Seven trumpets speak
Speak the sound of fear

Oh mother, you oughta be there
I'm gonna go to heaven when i die
(I want to go to heaven)
Roll jordan, roll jordan
Oh father, you oughta be there
I'm gonna go to heaven when i die
(I want to go to heaven)
Roll jordan, roll jordan

Roll Jordan Roll

Well, roll Jordan, roll (roll Jordan)
Roll Jordan, roll (roll Jordan, roll Jordan)
I want to go to heaven when I die
Roll Jordan, roll

Well my mother, you ought to been there
Mother, you ought to been there
My mother, you ought to been there
Roll, Jordan roll

Hypebeast | HUF: An American Pastime

Hypebeast recently caught up with the HUF crew to preview Spring 2010. Keith Hufnagel and designer
Hanni El Khatib discuss design inspiration, the comeback of the snapback, personal style, keeping design relevant for the skate community and HUF Footwear program. Hypebeast portrays the current line-up through an array of photographs that capture the essence of the simple, clean and classic cut and sew collection.

"Last month HUF gave us the opportunity to interpret its Spring/Summer 2010 Collection the way we felt would be most reflective of the colors, styles, and overall feeling within the new season. For us, the garments instantly traced back to our days as Little League kids, playing the game that has been long considered America’s pastime, Baseball. Loosely inspired by the classic film, The Sandlot, we embarked on a day long journey through the back roads of Northern California, capturing the essence of classic American rebellion, childhood, and overall love for everything nostalgic. Presented is a look into HUF’s Spring/Summer line through our eyes, with words from both Keith Hufnagel and designer Hanni El Khatib".

Definitely worth the read.
