Caved

Yesterday I caved...losing all self control. As I result I added the Supra Strapped Suede's to the ever growing shoe collection.

Monday Morning Playlist: Brandon Cheng

One of the highlights for me this past February was viewing the Triumvir Civil War Collection at Magic/Project. Not to follow suit the Triumvir crew booked a sky suite at the MGM to entertain and display the upcoming collection. The spring 09 collection was and is beyond impressive. For those of you unfamiliar with the brand itself, Triumvir is - "heavily influenced by history, culture and the derivatives of contemporary fashions, many of the ideals and legacies set forth by the Roman Empire, among others, have served as direction inspiration for triumvir".

The force behind Triumvir is non-other then Brandon Cheng.  Triumvir became an extension of Brandon's custom sneaker work that you could at one time find on NikeTalk.  From there the brand evolved and in the past few years under went a slight image change all while maintaining their integrity and giving us nothing less then some of the highest quality denim, button ups, outwear and graphically pleasing designs. Recently they teamed up with Capcom and Sega promoting the 20th anniversary of Street Fighter as well as Madworld for Wii.

Brandon's work has been a huge inspiration to the crew at LifeAfterMidnight so it seemed fitting to ask Brandon what music has been influencing his work as well as some tunes that he has in constant rotation.

Influencing Brandon's work...

1. Mildred Bailey, "When That Man Is Dead And Gone"
2. Transmission0, "Dream 1"
3. Transmission0, "Fragments"
4. Transmission0, "Dying Light"

Enjoying

5. Hiroshi Fujiwara, "Hard Boiled Dub"
6. The Smiths, "How Soon is Now"
7. Paul Davis, "I Go Crazy"
8. Nujabes, "World's End Rhapsody"
9. Morrissey, "I have Forgiven Jesus"
10. Morrissey, "Let Me Kiss You"
11. Anything Enya
12. Anything Enigma
13. Depeche Mode, "Shake the Disease"
14. Depeche Mode, "Question of Lus"
15. The Cure, "Lullaby"

Words of advice, get your hands on a pair of the Castor Raw Selvedge Denim.  In our opinion of the of nicest pairs of denim on the market right now.

Thanks Brandon for the time.  Look forward to what comes out of the dungeon and triumvir camp over the upcoming seasons.

Cool song and video but it's hard to get past the auto-tune, for me anyways.

Nike Presents Onward - James Jarvis x Richard Kenworthy

Onwards from LAM on Vimeo.

“I had become interested in the idea of characters that were less referential and more iconic and abstract. I particularly wanted to do something with a potato-headed stick-man that I had been drawing at that time.

The film was inspired by certain personal experiences in running – a favourite run over Blanchland moor in Northumberland, being attacked by a crow in Singapore – and also by the transcendent, almost psychedelic experience of the simple act of running.

Rather than a marketing project inititated by Nike, the film was something proposed and produced by myself, and as such I hope represents a much more equal collaboration with a brand.”

Today's Useless But Impressive Lesson: Daichi Beatboxing

So this is beyond impressive.  You have to watch the video in its entirety.  As it progresses it just gets more impressive.  Daichi is an 18 year old Japanese beatbox talent who made this video last week in an attempt to get a Beatbox Challenge Wildcard.

Pharrell Parting Ways With Sleeve

Looks as though Pharrell has decided to get laser treatment to remove his tattoos.  Which has me curious as to what he plans on doing when that all heals up.

Ransom x Adidas Closer Look

Inqmnd posted these pictures of the Ransom x Adidas shoe.  Looks like a complete new silhouette.  Inqmnd is reporting that "Adidas has taken the collaboration game to the next level. They’ve actually allowed select retailers to design their own signature Adidas model, as opposed to the typical collab method of just customizing an existing model".

This Is What We Should All Drive...

I have been having this re-occurring dream where I am ripping around town in a T-Rex.  The T-Rex is built exclusively by Campagna Motors in Boucherville, Quebec. 0-70 in 3.5 seconds and 0-100 in 10 with a top speed of 157 mph.  Only $50,000 short so I guess I'll keep to dreaming.

Nike SB Dunk Premium - Sky/Pink

It has been a while since I have seen a pair of dunks that I have really liked, probably since the Concept x Nike Lobsters Dunks.  Anyways I saw these gems today.  Good news, they reinstalled my love for the dunk.  Bad news they are only available in South Korea. Hopefully when the are released State side we get them in a mid.

Took the Rebel to the lake this weekend to enjoy one of the last weekends before the move to New York.  I have been really into textures and photographing water lately.  Here are a few images from what felt like a Fall Saturday.

30 x 30

“30 Customs By 30 Artists: An Auction to benefit the Children of Cambodia is the first step in trying to help the children that have impacted my life,” writes Kidrobot’s Baroness Nichole. “After traveling to Cambodia last year I fell in love with the people of that country. Everyday I think about the amazing children I met and how I could help them.

"Most of these children lack the necessities of food, clothing, shoes, and transportation. Many can't even afford the pencils and notebooks they need to attend school. So instead of attending class they sell trinkets at the temples in order to survive.

"I have reached out to 30 of my friends and asked them to create a custom toy specifically for this auction. Every cent from the sale of these customs will go directly to help the children I have met in Cambodia. With the help of people that I have met in Cambodia, I will be delivering clothing, shoes, books, paper, pens, and bicycles to children of Siem Reap villages. It has been a passion and a dream of mine to use art as a way of helping children and communities all over the World, and I am excited about this first step.

"Starting Friday, April 17th, I will be auctioning off one-of-a-kind custom works on eBay under the seller name 'BaronessLoves'. Seach for '30 x 30' to bid on original pieces from: 123KLAN, Alex Pardee, Andrew Bell, Beast Brothers, Brian Morris, DEPH, DEVILROBOTS, FILTH, Gary Baseman, ILoveDust, Jime Litwalk, Joe Capobianco, Joe Ledbetter, Jon Burgerman, MAD, Maze23 Brooklyn, Mori Chack, Nathan Jurevicius, Pon, SEEN, Shawnimals, Sket One, SourBones, TADO, Tara McPherson, TILT, Tim Biskup, Triclops Studios, Urban Medium, and Christian Jacobs of YoGabbaGabba!

"I am very excited about this opportunity to help people that have impacted me so much. I hope that you find a custom you love and bid! If you are interested in helping in any way I am not only looking for monetary donations- If you can provide clothing, notebooks, papers, or pens that would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to email me at toybaroness@gmail.com. Also, if you are interested in directly donating to a non-profit for Cambodian Children, please check out The Cambodian Children’s Fund."

Speaking of Marketing Genius

If you haven't seen these billboards yet they are pretty hype.  So story goes, Audi throws up this billboard for the new A4 on the corner of Santa Monica and Beverly Glen with the headline "Your Move, BMW". So local Santa Moncia BMW dealership responds with a billboard across the street featuring the new M3 Coupe, reading "Checkmate". Though the cars aren't really comparable this is marketing genius.

Asics Gel Lyte III - White/Navy/Gold

Most definitely challenging the likes of Nike and NB...

(via. SneakerNews)

Where has Coup De Grace Gone?

Here is what I want to know...where has Coup De Grace gone?  Sure they only gave us a Spring and Summer line in 2008 but I mean their stuff was pretty hype.  They had stuff in almost every boutique from In4mation and Major, to 5&A Dime and Karmaloop.  It actually took me almost a year to find out who was behind the brand.  The man behind the brand was and is Cory Lake apparently, at least at the time, a member of the DC design team.  Although this is all second hand information.  I am tempted to give everyone his email so they can bombard him with emails to revive the brand.  If anyone knows what Cory's up to these days let us know.

Nike RT1 High

Nike recently released the RT1 alongside the Air Yeezy. The design and marketing team over at Nike is definitely on the ball my emulating the silhouette into a more cost effective shoe ($95). With the hype around the AY dieing down a bit (until the black colorway drops) Nike has dropped a tri-tone grey and green mist colorway that is sure to catch some attention.

The color palettes thus far for the RT1's have been pretty bland but think of the potential.  If I was a Nike I.D. Studios this is what I would want to customize. I mean you could buy 10 pairs of these or a pair of Yeezy's off eBay.

The Hundreds...Valenzuela Low?

Now maybe I am just imagining things but do or do these not look like the Valenzuela Low? Yes is what I thought although it appears these kicks feature a gum sole and red tag.  Which to my understanding is not available...yet.

Nabil Elderkin

KANYE WEST "Welcome To Heartbreak" Directed by Nabil from Nabil Elderkin on Vimeo.

In the world of music video production and direction it is always nice to see something different then strippers, dollar bills and rims.  I have really been into what Nabil Elderkin has been doing especially. His most recent work, Kanye and Cudi's 'Wlecome to Heartbreak' is a prime example.  Some of his works includes Common's 'The Game', Kanye West's 'Champion' and Drake Bell's 'I Know'.

Refreshing.

Tuesday's Chill Track: "Cut and Dried" Everlea

A step back from the predominately rap music we have posted over the past few weeks. Tuesday Chill Track comes from Kingston, Ontario group Everlea.  I first stumbled across Everlea's cover of "Night of the Creeps" by Recover.  The song was featured by Canadian photographer Brooks Reynold's in his "We Are Sleeping Giants" project.  The group released their first EP "Friends Hurting Friends" in 2004 and after a few years of noses to the grindstone they caught the ears of A&R Executive, Diane Passage and signed with Glassnote Entertainment Group in 2007.  Head over to their myspace and check out "Night of the Creeps".  I would of posted it but...no video...

William Spencer "Hollarado!"

I'll be the first to admit I can't skate worth crap. And when I see someone like William Spencer, 5'10" 137 pounds, do a running backflip down stairs...well I have no words to describe the feeling...or words to describe what he does. All I know is he has probably never lost a game of SKATE.

To put into perspective, Spencer (25) earned a six-page spread in Thrasher magazine for a running frontflip down 10 concrete stairs at Denver's Civic Center, landed on his skateboard and rod away. The 'trick' was featured in The Denver Shop's (Brothers Board) video "Hollarado!". And as a result Spencer is now a stunt double/actor. He has performed in commercials for Mountain Dew (directed by Forest Whitaker) and rumor has it a stunt double for Orlando Bloom in a Shiseido Uno hair gel ad. MTV even filmed a television plot around his life.

Check out the article from the Denver Post from earlier this year. Well worth the read.

FRSH x Team Pac Man

FRSH (FrancoShade) have teamed up Manny Pacquiao for a special limited-edition tee for the number one pound for pound champ’s upcoming fight against Britain’s Ricky Hatton on May 2. 100% of the proceeds from sales will go towards the Manny Pacquiao Foundation, "which was established with the goal to provide support and assistance to the underprivileged in the Philippines by offering aid with medical assistance, education for the youth, and food to those in need".

The tee will be released in only back and limited to 502 pieces (commemorating the fight date 5/02) and available only through francoshade.com (April 17th) and 80spurple.com (April 15th).

The shirt features the original work of FRSH design and features "a pair of boxing gloves on the front of the tee each emblazoned with FRSH’s and Pac Man’s logos. The sleeve features additional art work on each side with ‘Manny Pacquiao’ written on one side and an image of the Philippine Islands on the opposite sleeve. The back is where you can see the official ‘Team Pac Man’ insignia prominently placed in the center with Pacquiao’s signature right above it, signifying his stamp of approval". - FRSH
