Ashley Madison Agency

Give your head a shake. Toronto's online dating and affair agency, Ashley Madison's, commercial that was set to air during this years Superbowl has been pulled by CTV and will not hit Canadian airwaves. It's sad that some people in society believe this to be an acceptable means. In fact 3,260,000 people worldwide are subscribers. Ridiculous.

Cardinals by 3...MVP Larry Fitzgerald.

Guess The Size?

Seems like everyone is having some fun with the size 45 Puma Clyde. I remember when I used to be mesmorized by a Shaquille O'Neal 23.

The guys at Staple, Nice Kicks and UNDFTD seem to be enjoying their shoe. Seems like marketing genius to me. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on these shoes the box in itself is hilarious. It features warning on how to transport your shoes. Their advice, do not place on roof rack transport by trailer.

Huf Ripstop Snap Backs Back

Initially released in 2008, Huf is offering up the heavy nylon New Era Ripstop snap back once again and best part is they are been sold at a discounted price of $25. Original retail price was just over $40. As an owner of both the navy and white colorway I high recommend these hats. The fitted is really unmatched and the material can withstand just about anything. And if you get a little dirt on them you can wipe it right off.

Erik Akkersdijk Meet Ali Haider

I was talking with a friend of mine out at Western a few weeks ago and he was hyping his Rubik's cube skills. By the end of the conversation we had decided that Ali was going to prove his talents and toss a video up on YouTube.

Ali is one of those guys who has everything going for him (just look at that hat). He definitely doesn't lack in the looks department and if you need help with math he has Pi memorized to like the hundredth decimal place. That much can not be said about current world record holder Erik Akkersdijk. Though he did throw down a time of 7.08 seconds he does not look nearly as good or provide such intriguing commentary. It's just a matter of time before this video takes the YouTube world by storm.

Jeff Hamada x Converse

Jeff Hamada is a pretty rad Canadian designer and his story is pretty inspiring. Jeff is one of those guys you can't help but admire. Determined and dedicated he has made a name for himself not only in Canada but on the world wide front.

A quick run through of how he ended up where he did. Applied to Emily Carr to study communication design...rejected. Enrolled in their film program...loved it...shortly after hired by EA Sports who in turn paided for the remaining of his education at Carr...posted design portfolio on the web...found out about 3sixteen on a Christian forum and sent samples to founder Andrew Chen...got hired and designed the Spring 2006 collection...went better then planned...hired as head designer...led to big things including working with Endeavor Snowboards and Soul Assassins...teamed up with Converse for (Product)Red project.

I have followed Jeff's work for a few years now and I must say he is an extremely down to earth guy. I emailed him last week about a little project I have on the go and he took the time out of his retardedly busy schedule to exchange a couple emails. So I encourage you if you are in the vicinity of Livestock at 1709 West 4th Ave in Vancouver pop in on February 19th from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and purchase this shoe. All proceeds from that night will go directly to the Global Fund.

First Look: Coraline Dunk

First look at the Coraline Dunks courtesy of Jeff Ng and Bobby Kim. Only 50 pairs exist with actual props and movie memorabilia, like the cotton candy seen enclosed in these two pairs. the only way to get a pair, unless you're important, is to attend the movie on February 6th and stay until the closing credits roll.

Nike Sportswear Sping/Summer 2009

A little preview of the Nike Sportswear Spring/Summer collection. Highsnobiety described these pieces as 'stand out' and they are right but I am going to tell you why...cause the tee's look awfully familiar to the RSWD tee from the Hundreds last season.

iPhone CameraBag App

For those of you who have aquired an iPhone I suggest, if you haven't already, making your way over to the iTunes store and purchasing the CameraBag application. CameraBag is an application created by Never Center and allows you to utilize a group of
advanced filters allowing you to emulate several different camera and film styles, giving your photos an old-school, cinematic appeal.

The cameras included in CameraBag are:

"Helga" - A square-format toy camera feel with washed-out highlights and old-school vignetting.
"1974" - is your father's camera. Faded, tinted, and hip.
"Lolo"- Shoot from the hip and take life as it comes with vibrant, colorful shots.
"Cinema" - Dramatic, moody, wide-screen stills from the movie of your life.
"1962" - Dynamic black and whites from the photojournalists of a bygone era.
"Mono" - Smooth gradation from black to white.
"Infrared" - Simulation of the popular landscape photography technique.

KAWS Solo Show "The Long Way Home"

Brooklyn-based artist Kaws will be making the trip to LA later next month to showcase his iconic work. "The Long Way Home" will be the School of Visual Art grads first solo show in Los Angeles and will feature "his trademark pop culture style in the form of new paintings and sculptural work referencing iconic influences with his brand of clover reinterpretation" (Hypebeast).

Vans Syndicate - Eric Dressen

The Vans Half Cab, for me, as one of the most appealing silhouettes on the market. It's off kelter shape continues to grow on me. Vans Syndicate will be releasing three subtle colorways alongside skate legend Eric Dressen as part of their Sping/Summer 2009 collection.

These Half Cabs will see the "Mixing of textures, from suede to a woollier feel to a coarser canvas, the side panel replacement for the usual ‘Half Cab’ patch promotes Mister Cartoon’s Syndicate ‘S’ while the gold eyelet, signature script on the inner collar and his quintessentially West Coast skull and 13 image on the insole".

Diamond Supply 'Colder Than Ice'

2007 saw the release of one of my favourite shirts to date - the Diamond Supply 'Cold as Ice' tee. I don't think it gets much better then the black tee with the full front diamond and hand. My girlfriend may disagree with this statement but for me this shirt was worth every penny.

Diamond has followed it up with the 'Colder Than Ice' set to drop in the up coming weeks. The tee features a step back look from the 'Cold as Ice' tee and features model Nilanti. I can't wait to see what colors are offered. I don't think this tee is as hype as the 'Cold as Ice' but none the less this is sure to be a show stopper.

On another note I was checking out Nick's myspace and he's got a great quote up "What other people think of you is none of your business". Chew on it...

Winnipeg's Own: Grand Analog

Grand Analog - Touch Your Toes Part 2 (feat. Kiyomi) from Life After Midnight on
Vimeo.

Grand Analog was formed in 2006 by former frontman of Mood Ruff, Odario Williams. Winnipeg native Odario Williams united musical forces with his brother DJ Ofield (Ofield K. Williams), Warren Bray, Damon Mitchell and co-producers Catalist and Wu Ataman. It's difficult to categorize the sound and style of Grand Analog as the music draws inspiration from reggae, soul, hip-hop, jazz inspired sound and credits the likes of Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, A Tribe Called Quest, Bad Brains, Tony Bennett, and The Roots.

"It's hip-hop, but soul must be in the bloodline. Soul can channel through many genres of music. We sample and play a fair share of dub, funk and rock into the mix. These are expressed more specifically in the live show. We jam quite a bit and experiment right then and there on stage during a performance." - GA

Grand Analog's debut album 'Calligraffiti' was released in stores July 2007. The band also has announced the follow-up release of 'Metropolis Is Burning' in March of this year.

The CD package is also pretty hype. It was done by local talent, Mark Remoquillo, a current member of Winnipeg design firm Urban Ink. The CD package is above innovation and features countless hand drawn illustrations that "were scanned, composed and implemented across the design of all materials".

GoldSpace

Benny Gold is doing big things this year. Not only did he finally get around to re-stocking his online store but he also gave his myspace a massive overhaul. Enjoy. Looks good Ben.

Supra Skytop

I am a big fan of what Supra Footwear had done to elevate the shoe game with the Skytop, Vaidar and the Soprano. The subsidiary of KR3W has had a lot of success as of late with the Skytop. To date the shoe has undergone a variety of colorways from insane fluorescents and all over patterns to unique contrasting two-tones, which is great but at the end of the day its not a "go to" everyday shoe.

In my opinion that just changed with the release of this toned down version. The grey on grey Skytop is available at CCS.com.

Also Sneaker Freaker did a rad interview with Angel Cabada founder of KR3W and Supra Footwear.

Obama Overload

It seems that with the economy everyone and I mean everyone is trying to capitalize on the celebrity and cult status of Mr. Obama. It seems like every clothing brand has an Obama shirt now. Its cool to see everyone excited for change and this new sense of hope that Obama has brought to the table but at the same time I feel that good design has been shelved and replaced with the mentality of a quick dollar. I do have a lot of respect for these brands and these are just a taste of what is popping up but there was potential for so much more.

Like what is this? Obama Air, is that an airline? Has he launched a shoe? Its crazy how sweet of a design copy + paste can create. Does anyone wear this?

And it's only getting worse. Obama and Spiderman (though I am sure in 20 years this will be highly collectible) and word of an Obama Action Figure. Since the election or circus, Palin has hired an entertainment lawyer and Condoleezza Rice, former Secretary of State, inked a deal with William Morris Talent Agency. I am waiting for McCain to be hired as a reporter for BET.
