The store opens in a week, March 6th to be exact with an opening party going down on the 5th hosted by Mishka's own Greg Rivera and Mikhail Bortnik. Congrats on the conquest for world domination.

Hypebeast TV | Rick Klotz

I am not sure if Rick Klotz is a crack-head or ahead of the curve on some next level that I don't understand. The current episode of Hypebeast TV catches up with Freshjive mastermind Rick Klotz to discuss a range of topics from the controversial video of Robert Dwyer, former Treasurer of Pennsylvania, who committed suicide during a live television news conference, to the re-branding of his Freshjive. He also touches on the controversial inspiration for Spring/Summer 2010.

KanyeWest.com | The Launch

KanyeWest.com launched yesterday with the debut of Kanye's newest video "Coldest Winter". Replacing Kanye's former cluttered blog over at KanyeUniversecity.com the new and improved site features a very clean aesthetic. The site will focus on the Architecture, Art, Cars, Design, Fashion, Fresh Kids, Girls and Music that catches the attention of the self-proclaimed 'King of Pop'.

Over the course of the last few years the debate has continued as to whether or not Kanye was directly involved with the tastemaking opinions that appeared on the site. Complex even went as far as putting together a feature "Cracking the Case". Only time will tell I guess.

The Retrospective TV | Black Scale Balance of Opposites

The Retrospective caught of with Michael Yabut aka Mega of Black Scale and did a really insightful 2:00 piece. Over the course of the past few seasons Black Scale has solidified it self, as Retrospective put it, "unsung hero" of street culture. The former HUF manager branched off with Alfred De Tagle in 1997 to form Black Scale.

Spring 2010 Collection drops this coming Friday at the Black Scale SF Store at 55 Grant Ave 2nd Floor.

Supreme NYC | Spring Summer 2010

Here is a glimpse at a few pieces that comprise the Supreme Spring/Summer 2010 collection. The clothing collection consisting of tees, button downs, jackets, footwear and denim continues to be solid. Also the consist line-up of headwear continues with a vast selection of fitteds, 5-panel caps and camp caps.

What really caught my attention was the Spring/Summer accessories line up which ranges from a Robert Crumb for Supreme Head Porter wallet, pencase and hat to a pair of nunchucks. Looks like the streets of New York, Los Angeles and Japan just got a little more dangerous replacing Fall/Winter 2008's Everlast boxing glove collection. My money is on the nunchucks.

Release Dates:
March 4th (Thursday) - NY & LA
March 6th (Saturday) - Japan
March 11th (Thursday) - Online

You can view the lookbook and collection in its entirey now.

Goodfoot | End of an Era

Sad day for boutique Canadian retail. Goodfoot who has open retail spots in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary announces that they have closed up shop to pursue new endeavors.

"To our valued customers and vendors,

It’s been our great pleasure to bring you some of the most exciting products and events the sneaker market has had to offer over the last 10 years of business. Over time we’ve seen many faces pass through our doors, and made great friends along the way. We broke ground for Canada’s retail landscape, and paved the way for those that followed. Yet, nothing lasts forever and it has come time to close.

We’ve seen our market change significantly over the last few years. And, as it has changed direction, so too have we. Thus the decision to close Goodfoot and shift our focus onto new opportunities has been made. There are many exciting projects to come in our future, and we hope that everyone who supported us at Goodfoot will continue to support us in the growth and evolution of our exciting endeavors to come.

We’d like to officially take this time to thank you for supporting Goodfoot. We’ll always remember the relationships that were built, and the unbelievable energy and loyalty our customers brought to this unique shop.

Thank you,

The Goodfoot Team

PLEASE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENTS!"

The new Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible is set to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month. It has gained the title of the most powerful drop-top Bentley yet and the quickest four-seat convertible in the world which will inevitable speed up male pattern baldness.

The rag-top accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds (60 MPH) and 160 km/h in 9.5 (100 MPH) with a top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph). Let's hope those ZR20 Pirelli Ultra High's keep this car on the road.

Production is slated for start of Autumn.

S/Double | Online Store March Launch

Shawn Stussy's S/Double will be launching their online store platform next month. No specific date has been
announced and we really haven't had a good look at what to expect from the founder of one of the most iconic brands in street culture. We have been fortunate enough to see a few footwear packs as well as some basic tees and denim. It is expected we will also see a small range of basic fashion and accessory pieces. From what we have seen we would imagine that the collection will focus on the basics with minimal design and focus on the small detailings.

“This is one of those things that’s about seeing if it can be done and having a good feel to it… I am just making pretty basic stuff and I want the things I make to be familiar because I haven’t changed”. - Stussy

Livestock Vancouver x Reigning Champ | Made In Vancouver

Canadian based brands Livestock and Reigning Champ recently teamed up for a "Made In Vancouver" inspired project. The project focuses on "The diverse cultural background of the city’s population as well as its natural surroundings served as an inspiration for two different hoodies". The two hoods are constructed of Polartec Thermal Pro Fleece fabric as a result very light weight and highly breathable. The hoods focus on the details including ribbed cuffs with thumb holes as well as two way Nickel zippers. These technical hoodies are expected to be released at weeks end which will parallel the beginning of the XXI Winter Olympic Games.

The release seems very appropriate given the cultural background of Vancouver and the fact that Vancouver will become home to over 5,500 athletes from 80+ countries over the next two weeks.

Oakley Frogskin | Valentine's Day

The most recent addition to the Oakley Frogskin collection features a clear and candy pink frame with matching iridium lens. SeaVees | 7 Eye Trail Boot

Inspired by the VIII Olympic Winter Games in Squaw Valley, California the 7 Eye Trail Boot of the SeaVees footwear collection is a commentary on California culture in the 1960s...

"The small town - with no mayor and a ski resort with just one chair-lift - was selected over favorite Innsbruck by a narrow 32 to 30 vote. The ‘60 Games mark many notable achievements in Olympic history including the first to be held in the Western United States, the first to be televised, and the first time computers are used to tabulate results."

About the boot...

"Our 02/60 Trail Boot captures the simplistic stylings and functional ideals of the boots worn in the Squaw Valley era. Made of gutsy, full grain leather with a micro-sanded and oiled top surface for durability. Moccasin stitch and 360 degree welt stitch are hand-sewn with a heavy, waxed thread. Laces are oil stuffed rawhide leather. Flat eyelets are brushed silver. Superior comfort footbed is leather lined. Features a sueded leather heel counter to secure fit. Made by our patented SeaVulc Natural Rubber manufacturing process that allows a casual shoe to be as comfortable as a sneaker. Natural Rubber is softer and more elastic resulting in superior cushioning, reduced weight, increased flexibility, and maximum slip resistance"

The boot can be purchased for $210 here.

Today's Useless But Impressive Lesson | Logorama by H5

This little gem premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in the short film category and has since gone on to be nominated at this years Oscar as Best Animated Short. They piece was written and directed by design team H5 which is made up by François Alaux and Herve de Crecy . I think I also read that there are roughly 2,500 corporate identities that appear over the course of the 16 minutes. And for the record there is nothing useless about this video.

"Logorama presents us with an over-marketed world built only from logos and real trademarks that are destroyed by a series of natural disasters (beginning with a hurricane, cyclone, tidal wave...). logotypes are used to describe an alarming universe (similar to the one that we are living in) with all the graphic signs that accompany us everyday in our lives. this over-organized universe is violently transformed by the cataclysm becoming fantastic and absurd. it shows the victory of the creative against the rational, where nature and human fantasy triumph.'

Enjoy

5 Minutes | Jon Contino

We always like to ask a few random questions to our Monday Morning Playlist features. Jon was no exception as he was kind enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to give us his two cents.

5 things people don't likely know about me are...

1. I've seen "Miss Congeniality" about 500 times and don't exactly hate it.
2. I've never had the opportunity to jump on a trampoline or pogo stick.
3. I wish Wiffleball was a professional sport because I would give up everything to make it to the Wiff Bigs.
4. I'm 27, I've never seen all of "Goonies," and I don't really care!
5. I am unable to see ghosts, but wish that I could.

5 things I don't leave home without...

1. iPhone
2. keys
3. gum
4. cash
5. a belt

5 brands that intrigue me...

1. Monocle
2. Ray Ban
3. Keds
4. Zuriick
5. Levis

I first met Matt...

...on the first day of college orientation in the summer of 2001. We were both in hardcore bands and had less than six degrees of separation for years before, but somehow never met. Turns out we both liked the same stuff and started working together almost immediately.

If my computer was only capable of running 5 fonts they would be...

Garamond, Bodoni, Knockout, Univers, and American Typewriter.

If I wasn't a designer you could probably find me...

...at a hardware store picking up materials for some type of construction job.

Favorite New York neighborhood is...

...hard to say. I love south shore Nassau and Queens, Brooklyn Heights, Greenpoint, Montauk, and the West Village. I like them all for different reasons though.

Design books you would most likely find on my coffee table would be...

...anything involving Herb Lubalin, Paul Rand, or Paula Scher; they would most likely be monographs.

The last article of clothing I purchased was...

...a heavyweight navy, boating-style sweater with twine and wooden toggles from the J. Crew Liquor Store.

My favorite piece of the CXXVI Spring 2010 collection is...

...either the light canvas boat shoe, the whale t-shirt, or the string bikini. I think we might have to find some new models for that one though, dudes with beards and tattoos aren't going to cut it.

If I had to wear one pair of shoes for the rest of my life they would be...

...New Balance 574s.

Predictions for the last season of LOST...

I am the worst at predicting anything for LOST, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the show is just an elaborate commercial for Tide detergent.

After completing this interview I am off to...

...watch a few episodes of Mad Men and maybe draw a little...probably just Mad Men though.

If you missed his Monday Morning Playlist you can check it out here.

Diversitile | Custom "Walking On Water" Nike Blazers

We have spent a good portion of the last 8 months recruiting talent for a custom footwear project we have on the go with Vans that is set to take place this coming year. We were rounding out our roster in November when we caught the glimpse of a "Walking On Water" themed Nike Dunk Low from artist and custom clothing designer Diversitile.

Out of the 30 artists we have managed to bring aboard, the work of Diversitile has really stood out. And when we saw version 2.0 it only confirmed our excitement to see how his work will translate onto a Vans White Canvas Chukka. The "Walking On Water" custom utilizes a blazer base with a semi-clear blue mid sole. The shoe debuted at Clash of the Customizers gallery in Los Angeles this past December. This particular 1 of 1 is a 9.5 and currently available but we would imagine they won't last too long. Check them out here.

Monday Morning Playlist: Jon Contino

This weeks installment of the Monday Morning Playlist features
Jon Contino. A graphic designer at heart, Jon co-founded boutique design studio Onetwentysix with good friend Matt Gorton. The design duo more recently expanded into the world of men's apparel with the launch of CXXVI this past fall. The studio and brand focuses on combining old world aesthetics with the forward thinking of a great metropolis.

Perusing Jon's portfolio one cannot help but be mesmerized by his ability to create stunning custom typography. In this day and age, where many designers focus on the power of technology, it is refreshing to see graphic design transcend the computer. His typography has been sought after by the likes of Franco Shade, Johnny Cupcakes, Casualty Killers and the Brooklyn Circus with
Letter Cult recently recognizing Jon's work as one of the Top 10 designs of 2009.

So sharpen that HB, grab a fresh stake of paper and enjoy today's Monday Morning Playlist.

Here's to a happy Monday. Thanks Jon for the time. Download link.

E*TRADE | Super Bowl XLIV Commercials (2010)

It seems every year that the best Super Bowl commercials come courtesy of E*Trade. This year was no exception. The E*Trade baby has become a repeated hit thanks to the creative team over at the Grey New York agency. Basically they filmed the baby sitting in a highchair before a green screen making expressions, mostly in response to his mother. She sat in an adjacent room for filming and was seen by the baby on a monitor. Added later digitally: the mouth movements of the 5-year old actor, the voice of a 30 year old.

The 5 year old has now become an app called "BabyMail". The app can send customized email video messages utilizing one of the E*Trade babies with the option to upload your own babies image into the message. Unfortunately it has the creep computer voice rather than the classic 30-year old human voiceover.

This years 30 second Super Bowl telecast spots came in at $3.01 US million.

Monday Morning Playlist: Our Favorites of 2009

We've been meaning to put together our favorite Monday Morning Playlist tracks into a little compilation for a while now. Though it is already February we thought we would drop the mix of the classic rock, dance and hip-hop that made our Monday's a little more bearable this past year.

We were very fortunate this year to meet and chat with a lot of creative individuals who took them time to give us their two cents on the music that influences their day to day. Thanks to everyone who took the time out of their busy schedules. Monday we will be dropping our first Playlist of 2010.

Check it out.

3sixteen | Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook

The Ace Hotel serves as a visually stunning and innovated way for the folks at 3sixteen to present this years Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Located in the heart of Manhattan the 12 story boutique hotel offers a unique decor that brings to light the New York base brand. Rooted in a "Made in New York" philosophy the brand continues to bring consistency and quality made garments to the table.

Stussy Deluxe x Dr. Martens | The Hambleton

I hate doing these kind of word for word reposts but Hypebeast knows best and it makes no sense for me to regurgitate information that I don't even know. What I do know is I am stoked on these shoes.

"After a very successful partnership with the Chukka boot, Dr Martens and Stussy Deluxe continue their collaborative partnership with a canvas shoe for Spring/Summer 2010, The Hambleton. Both brands have deep roots in street culture and command respect for their independent, grassroots heritage. Embracing the craftsmanship of Dr. Martens and the laid-back aesthetic of Stussy and California, this fusion has produced what is sure to become an iconic canvas shoe.

The Hambleton is inspired by sport shoes that have so long been the uniform for the youth of California and the famous European summer lightweight shoe, the espadrille a two eye moccasin toe footwear style that is sure to be a staple for the Spring. From a styling perspective, the Hambleton has a clean and sleek look with its bound apron and collar. The Hambleton will carry a Stussy Deluxe woven logo on the tongue and the classic SS Stussy logo is embossed on the rear heel counter. Each style will be tastefully finished with the traditional Dr. Martens woven loop in tonal colors to match the use of canvas.

The product has been built upon a new EVA wedge sole and a strip of Stussy’s signature purple runs along the top of the sidewall as a feature to offer a truly refreshing take on this product.

The Dr Martens x Stussy Deluxe Hambleton is available in three color ways – Navy, Black, and Ecru with two options of laces, tonal or white.

The collection will be available at select Dr Martens retailers and Stussy chapter stores worldwide on March 2010."

Supra Footwear | LOST Collaboration

I tried getting into LOST during its initial season with no avail. I gave it a solid 10 minutes and decided the show could beat it. That was until I sat down and watched the first episode in its entirety two years later. That month was then spent playing catch up as I abandon all friends and sat my ass down on the couch. The result, was an addition to LOST and a pale complexion.

For us LOST fans February 2 has been a much anticipated date. The final season kicks off tonight 8/7c on ABC. It seems I am not just the only one stoked on the final season. Late last month Nike debuted their Nike SB Blazer High - Dharma Initiative as well as the Nike SB Dunk High - Oceanic Airlines Edition both part of the LOST Pack. Not to be outdone Supra releases an exclusive "LOST" Vaider. The shoe was produced and given to cast and crew of the show with a small portion, 17 to be exact, set aside to go on sale today at Factory413 and depending on remaining stock going online later today.

The Supra x LOST package comes complete with a pair of “LOST” Vaiders in White & Gold Crackle, an “Expose” crew mug, and a numbered copy of an original LOST script signed by writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.

"The theme around the project was centered on the program “Expose” – a fictional program that appears numerous times throughout the LOST series as a show-wihin-the-show. In true LOST tradition, the shoes are covered in clues and references taken from the episode in which Expose first appears (the 14th episode of the third season – hence the 17 pairs releasing today). From the “Razzle Dazzle” on the heel to the “paralyzing” insole, fans of the series will be sure to understand the meaning of all the subtle hints included in the shoe’s construction."

Cheap Monday | Simon Anorak M-65

Though not your typical M-65, the Simon Anorak Jacket is another glowing example of how Cheap Monday cannot seem to do any wrong. The slimmer fitting symmetrical jacket features zip closure and 4 flap pockets with snap closures. The jacket also features a drawstring hood and bottom. The jacket is 100% cotton with poly lining and will only set you back $115. Cheap Monday was founded in 2000 by Örjan Andersson and Adam Friberg, originally as a second-hand clothing store, in a suburb of Stockholm. Today Cheap Monday spans the globe from Austrailia to North America appearing in just about every store from Barney's to Urban Outfitters.

On a side note when did Cheap Monday drop the controversial inverted crucifix from their logo?

Tuesday's Chill Track | "The Northern" - Alexisonfire

So I might as well stop calling these Tuesday track's chill. Alexisonfire's fourth studio album, Old Crows/Young Cardinals, dropped this past year and among the tracks was this take on a hymn from the 1850s. The story goes that in the 1850s, Reverend Alexander Reid, then superintendent of the Spencer Academy in the old Choctaw Nation, hired some enslaved Africans from the Choctaws for some work around the school. He over heard the two of them, "Uncle Wallace" and "Aunt Minerva" Willis, singing religious songs that they had apparently composed. Among those was Roll Jordan Roll. Reverend Reid furnished them into a gospel-esque group and the rest is history. Though the parallels may not be blatantly clear check it out.

The Northern

He comes, he comes
Judge so severe
Seven trumpets speak
Speak the sound of fear

Oh mother, you oughta be there
I'm gonna go to heaven when i die
(I want to go to heaven)
Roll jordan, roll jordan
Oh father, you oughta be there
I'm gonna go to heaven when i die
(I want to go to heaven)
Roll jordan, roll jordan

Roll Jordan Roll

Well, roll Jordan, roll (roll Jordan)
Roll Jordan, roll (roll Jordan, roll Jordan)
I want to go to heaven when I die
Roll Jordan, roll

Well my mother, you ought to been there
Mother, you ought to been there
My mother, you ought to been there
Roll, Jordan roll

Hypebeast | HUF: An American Pastime

Hypebeast recently caught up with the HUF crew to preview Spring 2010. Keith Hufnagel and designer
Hanni El Khatib discuss design inspiration, the comeback of the snapback, personal style, keeping design relevant for the skate community and HUF Footwear program. Hypebeast portrays the current line-up through an array of photographs that capture the essence of the simple, clean and classic cut and sew collection.

"Last month HUF gave us the opportunity to interpret its Spring/Summer 2010 Collection the way we felt would be most reflective of the colors, styles, and overall feeling within the new season. For us, the garments instantly traced back to our days as Little League kids, playing the game that has been long considered America’s pastime, Baseball. Loosely inspired by the classic film, The Sandlot, we embarked on a day long journey through the back roads of Northern California, capturing the essence of classic American rebellion, childhood, and overall love for everything nostalgic. Presented is a look into HUF’s Spring/Summer line through our eyes, with words from both Keith Hufnagel and designer Hanni El Khatib".

Definitely worth the read.
