In the 68th minute of last nights much anticipated gold medal game between Canada and the USA, Sidney Crosby secured his name among the roster of Canadian greats. No longer just the pride of Cole Harbour, N.S. but forever immortalized as the pride of Canada.
The goal was lack luster but when it hit the back of the net you could hear every Canadian exhale in unison before breaking into simultaneous roar. But you really can't hand Sid the Kid all the credit. Without the handy work of Canadians Jonathan Toews and Cory Perry and American's Ryan Kesler and Zach Parise and the mastery of goaltenders Roberto Luongo and Ryan Miller this opportunity would have never arose.
I don't know what it is about the Olympics this year but I don't think I have ever been so caught up. Every-time a Canadian was in contention for a medal the pit of my stomach was in a wrenched ball. I can't imagine the pressure each athlete faces during the two week event. Congrats to all the participants, volunteers and organizers on a very enjoyable Olympics.
And for the record when Toews scored I knew it was over. You're welcome for that little prediction. Now back to the CSI re-runs.
